The Brownsville Telegraph
2011
Alas, an update compliments of @s_beverage at the Observer-Reporter: According to a recent news story, the West Brownsville Wal-Mart is slated to open in January 2013. Terry McMillan, owner of McMillan Engineering, reports that the “scaled-down” supercenter is anticipated to be over 120,000 square feet. In 2009, Wal-Mart opened a 153,000 sq ft store in Waynesburg, PA (photo above). Rumors of the #WestBrownsvilleWalMart began to swirl in 2007, but sewage issues delayed activity. The fine folks of Greene County experienced similar complications and delays in the opening of their store.
In addition, four, adjacent, one-acre parcels will be marketed to small shops and restaurants looking to capitalize on Wal-Mart traffic.
"That's going to be huge" - Centerville Council President Patsy Ricciuti - “the project likely will spur more growth in the area.”
Progress is certainly on the horizon in the Brownsville area. All local portions of the Mon-Fayette Expressway should be completed by 2013 (including the Monongahela River Bridge), and hopefully, the redevelopment of our historic downtown will begin to take shape. The imminent growth and expansion of CalU should also be acknowledged in what, hopefully, will become a Bville Area Boom. O-R Story. Trib
